042011. Even though we were hit with 5 inches of snow yesterday, I'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate Spring!

100710. I promised last week that there would be a good give away this week … and I’m not going to let you down. But first … let’s talk about yoga mats.
Specifically, let’s talk about your old, sweat-laden, smelly, icky, torn up PVC, phthalate-filled yoga mat. Because if you’ve had your mat for a while, there’s a good chance it’s not one of the new biodegradable environmentally PVC & Latex-free mats. So not only is it not good for the environment … it might not be good for you either.
Which seems like a complete contradiction to why we do yoga in the first place.
And then … when you think about the millions of people practicing yoga these days … that’s a LOT of mats that will end up in a landfill. But yours doesn’t have to!

And when it comes time for you to give up that old mat for a new one … the choice is not an easy one. They all sounds great. 100% biodegradable. Photodegradable. No PVC. No Phthalates. No BPAs. 092210. … This is the first time we’ve had a Harvest Full Moon on the autumnal equinox in 19 years … which is pretty cool. And Jupiter is closer to the earth this week than it’s been since 1963.
(I was going to say it was “kind of awesome,” but I’ve been given a note from the Cowboy that I use the word “awesome” too much … hrmph … I thought it was part of my charm.)
But I have no doubt you’ve read, seen or heard bunches of stories about the Harvest Moon. About the autumnal equinox. About Jupiter.
So … today … I’m going to talk about something completely different.
Today … I’m going to talk about Divine Birth … a new CD by Snatam Kaur.
It’s incredible.
I should disclose that I am a big fan of Snatam Kaur’s. I own all of her CDs. I’ve seen her perform. I read her blog.
So when this new CD was released, I didn’t hesitate to listen. Listen. And listen, more.
With mantra and shabads (holy Sikh prayers) to guide a woman through her experience nurturing a new soul in her body, it would be easy to mistake this CD as one only for pregnant women. But that would be a major misconception. Yes … the mantras were designed to give women the guidance, courage, strength, awareness, compassion and peace. And yes, the Adi Shakti (primal creative energy) emanates through Snatam’s dulcet tones as she collaborates beautifully with her mother Prabhu Nam Kaur.
But … it’s most definitely much more than that.
I’ve had it in my car for the past three weeks. And I have it on continuous play. So I hear it on the way to the store. On the way to yoga. On the way to the horses. And it plays when I take the LO for a “snooze cruise.” (The “Guru Ram Das Lullaby” has guided her into a blissful rest more times these past few weeks than I can count.)
And what I’m coming to understand about this CD is that the mantras are also about recognizing the divinity of your own soul … they are about recognizing the Adi Shakti in each of us so we can manifest that creativity and live the life we were destined to live.
