072811. The LO is fascinated by birds. Ducks. Crows. Chickadees. Geese. Penguins. If it has feathers, she’s into it.
There’s a duck pond at the local college … we go there at least once a week with a small bag of cheerios so she can share them with her friends.
And there are a few geese and ducks at the local beach we’ve been to in the past few weeks. While other kids are torturing and chasing the birds, the LO cajoles them with the dulcet sounds of her voice and the salty bunny crackers in her snack cup.
“Come, duck. Come. Coooooooommmme Duuuuuuuuuck! Come ON! COME!” (NOTE: this is also how she calls the dogs. And it works just as well on the ducks. So … not so much.)
She even wakes up some mornings asking to see this video of a White Ibis taking flight.
Or for this one on Toucans.
She’s basically a junior ornithologist.
So about 3 weeks ago we purchased a $9 birdfeeder and $15 worth of birdfeed (which translates into a 30 lb bag).
And after just a few days, our yard is now overrun.
With chickadees.
And robins.
And swallows.
With crows (who are more interested in the sour cherries in the front yard).
And with wrens.
And I’ve been trying to capture a picture of our little bird oasis for as long as we’ve had the feeder.
To no avail.
Until this morning.
Sort of.
But even this morning, at least four flew off before I could snap the shutter.
At least we now have proof that it was a good investment.
Happy Thursday ...
Oooh . . . I love the LO's eyes in the pic. Soooooo big and wondrous.
As for the bird feeder, you are a brave, brave girl. ALl I can think about is the massive amounts of bird poop that such a feeder would induce. :) I have enough poop in my life.
And as far as IRL friends? Absolutely!
Too bad Montana and Ohio are so far apart. :(
