010812. Better late than never?
Okay, so tomorrow is DAY ONE of the first 40-day meditation challenge for anyone who cares to join in the fun.
The meditation we’re doing is called “Stimulate Your Chakra System and Feel Wonderful.” It’s from the Kundalini Yoga manual Reaching ME in Me, compiled by Harijot Kaur Khalsa, from the teachings of Yogi Bhajan.
It is designed to help us build the stamina and develop the prana to handle the pressures of this New Age. If you're anything like me, 2012 is already setting up to throw some amazing curveballs, and it's going to be a year just way full of life. This meditation requires that you use your breath (the energy of your prana) to carry you through.
As with all Kundalini yoga mediations, begin by tuning in with the Adi Mantra. Sit in Easy Pose, with hands in Prayer Pose at your heart center. Close your eyes and bring your awareness up to your Third Eye Point. Repeat the following mantra at least three times: Ong Namo Guru Dayv Namo. (translation: I call upon Divine Wisdom). Then inhale deeply, hold the breath and "pull your root lock" (lock the muscles of your rectum, sex organs and naval).Release the breath and the lock.
Now you're ready to go.
THE POSTURE:
Sit in Easy Pose (or a comfortable meditative posture, being sure to have a straight spine). Put the fingers of your left hand on your forehead touching your third eye point … that space between and just above your eyebrows. Extend your right arm out straight forward from your shoulder, parallel to the ground. Your right palm should face left.
EYE FOCUS:
Close your eyes. The sensation of your fingers on your Third Eye may draw your eyes up to that point. The important thing is to keep your eyes closed.
Hold this position and breathe slowly and deeply.
Meditate silently.
TIME:
Start with 3-5 minutes. Work up to 18 minutes.
To Finish:
Inhale, hold your breath 5-10 seconds, then exhale. Repeat. Then inhale, hold your breath 10-15 seconds, interlock your fingers and stretch your arms over your head, stretching the spine upward. Exhale and relax.
You will feel your body recharge with energy as you keep your right arm stretched out parallel to the ground. This will allow your magnetic field to align with that of the earth. Your left hand is at your pituitary gland, giving you balance. The force of your breath will become longer and more powerful. Your body may start to feel pain, but it will give you endurance, which will cause you to rise above yourself … and “once you rise above yourself, you’ve got it.”
Exciting stuff!
“This life is not for wasting. It is for reaching to the wonderlands of your own consciousness.” – Yogi Bhajan
